The Adventures of
RadioGirl

The first in a series of Adventures

Grant performs an interpretive dance of the LASIK surgery that Pam will soon have

I never liked wearing glasses. Well, except those really cool sunglasses like Sophia Loren wears. So when I heard about LASIK eye surgery, I read everything I could find about it. I mean, I'm not gonna let just ANYbody cut my eyeballs open. I wanna know WHAT they're cutting, why they're doing it, and what the laser is gonna do.

What I found is that this concept of altering the shape of the eye to correct eyesight has been around for many, many years. Russian doctors were actually among the first to perform a crude version of the surgery. And with their success, the procedure gained credibility and the race was on to perfect it.

LASIK eye surgery, the most technologically advanced version of this procedure, is remarkably safe. There are normal concerns, as there should be in any surgery. But when it is performed by a doctor who is experienced in the procedure, the possibility of a problem is virtually nil. Especially if you are well-tested ahead of the surgery, and you are conscientious with your follow-up care.

Does it Hurt?
That's an easy one to answer.
NO

Office Manager Betsy Hendrix checks the size of my eyeball and my pupil.

I decided to have my LASIK surgery done at Eye Associates of New Mexico. My boss and his wife had had cataract surgery done by them and spoke highly of both the doctors and the office staff. I called the Better Business Bureau to ask if there had been any complaints. There had not been. I read up on the doctors, and called for references on them. And when all was said and done, I was satisfied that this was the right place to have someone cut open my eyeballs. Let's be honest... No matter how much you know about the procedure, there's still a sense of fear. I mean... we're talking about your eyesight!!

I was tested and tested and tested. The size of my eyeballs was tested... the shape... the pressure in my eyes. And then, when they were done testing, they tested one more time.

What happens next in this Adventure?
Stay tuned to find out!!
